A Year to Live

This year-long group, based on the book A Year to Live by Stephen Levine, is a spiritual practice of facing death and waking up to the life we are living. Can we do what needs to be done and die feeling complete?

What if you were given a terminal diagnosis and only had one year to live to live?

One hardly ever knows when their last year begins, how do we prepare for it now?

What would you do with this precious time?

In our death-denying culture, few of us contemplate the inevitability of our death, or that it could happen at any time. The Buddha recommended that we do just that, not to frighten us, but to use death as an object of contemplation to help us awaken to the fragile, fleeting, and precious nature of our lives.

Ultimately, this is a year-long practice in forgiveness, gratitude and letting go.

Through guided meditations, inquiry and one on one sessions with Vinny each participant will be guided through a process of living this year as if it were their last.

It was one of the best practices I have ever done – a real turning point in my spiritual life.
– Noah Levine

Meeting one Saturday a month, this process is open to anyone who is interested, but it is a serious undertaking and will be closed group once it begins. We recommend that you attend all sessions, but you may miss two if necessary. Please feel free to email Jason (jason@againstthestream.org) if you have questions about registration.

Kind Awareness: Meditations and Reflections on the Buddhist Path of Awakening

706280_4948571791316_1712885207_o.jpg

Using a hybrid of meditation and loving-kindness meditation techniques, Noah and Vinny will offer an experience of the teachings and practices of the Buddha. We will learn how to develop a greater sense of care for ourselves and for our world through the revolutionary spiritual practices of the Buddha. The workshop explores the way that true spiritual practice is an engagement with life that goes against the norms of our confused society and is therefore an act of rebellion. This ancient path of awakening to our own deepest wisdom and compassion is accessible to all who choose it. Instructions in meditation and guidance in the Buddhist path to liberation will be offered.
